Frequently Asked Questions
  • Who can use the service?
    It is open to anyone who is experiencing short or long term mobility difficulties. You must be over 14 years old to use a mobility scooter, however we do have children's wheelchairs available.
  • Do I need to register as a member to use the service?
    No you do not need to register as a member to use us.
  • What are our opening hours?
    Our current operating times are as follows; Monday - Wednesday 10:00am - 16:30pm Thursday - CLOSED Friday - Saturday 10:00am - 16:30pm Sunday - CLOSED Note: we are closed on Bank Holidays
  • Do I need to be a Blue Badge holder?
    No you do not require a blue badge to use our service. Our service is available to any person who is experiencing difficulties with their mobility.
  • Where am I able to use the equipment?
    If you are hiring for use around Woking town centre, you can access the two shopping centres, theatre & cinema, The Lightbox, Market Walk, and town side of Woking station.
  • How much does it cost?
    We are able to keep our fees minimal thanks to grants we receive from Woking Borough Council and Woking Shopping. Please refer to our 'Fees' page on the website for further details.
  • Can I hire a scooter for holidays?
    Yes, we hire travel scooters on a daily or weekly basis for trips in the UK and Europe. Please note you must be a registered member to hire a travel scooter. We can offer manual wheelchairs to non-members for holidays or day trips.
  • Can a child sit on my lap whilst using a scooter?
    No, we are not insured for this, and we must adhere to our Health & Safety policy.
  • Do you hire children's wheelchairs?
    Yes we have a range of children's wheelchairs for hire; either on a short or long term basis. Please refer to the 'fees' page of our website for further details.
  • Can I carry shopping on the scooter?
    There is a basket at the front of all of our mobility scooters, and they are also supplied with a bag situated at the back. If you do have any larger items, it is always worth asking the retailer if they could deliver to the Shopmobility unit, where we can keep it for you until you return the scooter.
  • What speed limits apply to the scooter?
    The speed limit is 4mph. We have speed limiters on all our equipment to ensure users are able to keep to this limit.
  • What types of payment do you accept?
    We can accept cash, card and cheque payments or online bank transfers.
  • Do you sell equipment?
    We only hire equipment, we do not sell any equipment from Woking Shopmobility.
  • What is the connection to other Shopmobility schemes?
    All the shopmobility schemes run independently of each other including ourselves. If you happen to be a member of another shopmobility, it does not mean you are a member of Woking Shopmobility.
  • What paperwork do you / I need?
    When using us for the first time, and/or if you are sighing up as a member, we just require you to complete a simple registration form which can either be downloaded from our website, or you can complete this when you come into the office.
  • Can I take the equipment away from the Woking shopping area?
    If you wanted to take the equipment away you would need to do a private hire, which includes a refundable deposit payment. Please refer to our fees page for further details.
